DENTON, Texas—The Centenary gymnastics team was unable to keep up its string of season-high team scores as it lost to Texas Woman’s University 193.850 to 189.975 on Saturday.

Texas Woman’s took control from the beginning, posting a 48.825 on the bars while the Ladies scored a 48.100 on the vault. The two teams switched events and the Pioneers extended their lead with a 48.575 on the vault, compared to Centenary’s 47.200 on the bars.

Meredith Smith won the vault with an individual score of 9.800 and Julia Cornelius garnered the Ladies top score on the bars with a 9.725 effort to take fourth place.

The beam gave Centenary trouble as two scores of 9.000 and an 8.425 resulted in a team tally of 46.650. That would be the final dagger that TWU needed to seal the win.

Cornelius earned a 9.775 on the beam to lead the Ladies on the event and Marisa Schneider’s 9.700 on the floor was good enough for third place.

Centenary returns home to host the LSU Tigers in the Gold Dome on March 2nd at 2 p.m.
