Centenary Gymnastics Hosts #8 LSU on Sunday
Saturday, March 1, 2008

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team begins the back stretch of its season with four of its last five meets at home in the Gold Dome. The run of contests in its own back yard begins on Sunday when the Ladies welcome the 8th ranked LSU Tigers to town for a 2 p.m. battle.

Centenary is currently tied for second place in the overall USA Gymnastics standings. The Ladies sport four gymnasts that rank in the top six individually on five different events. The freshmen trio of Marisa Schneider, Laura Loy, and Tara Sandoval has played a big part in Centenary’s success this season, while senior Meredith Smith has been steady as well.

Loy is the top-ranked beam performer in the USAG division, while Schneider sits in second on the floor exercise and sixth in the all-around. Smith, last week’s Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week, sits firmly in the second slot on the vault. Meanwhile, Sandoval finds herself in fifth place on the bars.

LSU is led by All-SEC performer Ashleigh Clare-Kearney. The junior ranks second in the NCAA in the all-around and on the vault, while occupying fifth place on the beam. Head Coach D-D Breaux continues to lead the prestigious LSU program, now in her 31st year at the helm.

Sunday’s meet will be videocast through Centenary’s website, www.GoCentenary.com on a pay-per-view basis.
