Gents See First Action Away From Shehee Stadium

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary baseball team seems to be a complete entity in the early goings of 2008. As a team, the Gents are batting a staggering .327 and the pitching staff has a meager 2.44 ERA. Centenary will take its great early numbers into action on Tuesday at local rival Northwestern State for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.

In its last games against Texas College, the Gents were led senior Calvin Sanchez, who hit .625, while junior Ryan Bernsen hit .600 and was 3-for-5 with five RBIs. The pitching staff, meanwhile, struck out 13 batters and had a 0.64 ERA.

NSU is 5-3 and has dropped just one game at home, falling to Grambling in the second game of a doubleheader on Feb. 23. Mike Jaworski leads the Demons with a .429 average, while Jimmy Heard anchors the pitching staff with a 3.46 ERA.

The game can be heard only on After Tuesday’s game the Gents will return home for a four-game, three-day series with UW-Milwaukee starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
