Wednesday, March 5, 2008

ELMHURST, Ill. – After starting all 28 games and scoring 11.6 points per contest as a freshman, Centenary women’s basketball student-athlete Anne Farrell was named to The Summit League’s All-Newcomer Team. The all-league voting was done by the conference coaches, sports information directors and media members.

The Tulsa, Okla., native scored 324 points and grabbed 198 rebounds in the regular season. Both statistics ranked her in the top 10 in a season at Centenary. If the year would end today, she would also have her name in the average rebounds in a season category, with 7.1

Farrell scored in double figures 19 times this season and had two double-doubles, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds at McNeese State, while adding to her resume at home against Oakland by scoring 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Adding to her plate, Farrell also went 11 games without missing a free throw (34-of-34) and she also played the entire contest four times. Against McNeese, Farrell played in 46 of a possible 50 minutes in the double overtime heartbreaking loss.

“I am very pleased Anne received this honor,” said head coach Steve Curtis. “She had an outstanding freshman season and we look forward to her continuing improvement as our program moves forward.”

“With that said, I’m disappointed she wasn’t named Newcomer of the Year since Anne led all newcomers in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage,” Curtis continued to say. “I’m also very sad Ashley Jackson wasn’t named to the team, as she was among the conference leaders in five different statistical categories and was fourth in scoring among newcomers and third in rebounding. I am proud of Anne, Ashley and Karolina Zaloga, who led all Summit League newcomers in assists and the rest of our team as well.”

The Ladies will next play in the first round of The Summit League Championship on Saturday against Oakland at noon in Tulsa.
