Hamilton and Stallings Named to Summit League Teams

ELMHURST, Ill.—Centenary men’s basketball players Tyrone Hamilton and Nick Stallings were selected to The Summit League Honorable Mention All-League Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday. It is the first postseason award for Stallings, while Hamilton was named to the second team last season.

 

Stallings, a junior, finished the regular season as Centenary’s leading scorer at 16.3 points per game and also led the team in rebounding at five per game. He enjoyed a breakout season and finished the year on a streak of five straight games of scoring more than 20 points. He ranks seventh in The Summit League in scoring, steals, defensive rebounds, and minutes played.

 

Hamilton, also a junior, averaged 16.1 points per contest while leading the Gents in 3-point shooting. He drained 83 long distance shots this season at a 39 percent clip. He currently places 15th on Centenary’s all-time scoring list with 1,260 points over his three-year career. He also ranks in the top five in career 3-point field goals attempted (526) and made (200) and sits eighth with 276 assists.

 

The Summit League first team consisted of George Hill (IUPUI), Robert Jarvis (Oral Roberts), Derick Nelson (Oakland), Geoff Payne (Southern Utah), Brett Winkelman (North Dakota State) and Ben Woodside (North Dakota State).

 

Hill was tabbed the Player of the Year, while Payne and Jarvis collected the Newcomer of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year awards respectively. Oral Roberts’ Yemi Ogunoye earned the Defensive Player of the Year distinction and Scott Sutton of ORU was the Coach of the Year.

 

Centenary opens play in The Summit League Basketball Tournament presented by J.D. Young on Saturday with a 6 p.m. first round contest against top seeded Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla.
