Ladies Host Midwest Independent Championships

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team returns to action Friday in the Gold Dome when it hosts the Midwest Independent Championships beginning at 6 p.m. Other teams competing in the event include Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Southeast Missouri State, and Texas Woman’s University.

Centenary last performed on March 16th and has had almost two weeks off since facing Kentucky. The Wildcats won that meet, but several Ladies enjoyed individual success. Senior Meredith Smith posted a 9.800 on the vault and the beam to place inside the top four on both events. Marisa Schneider and Mandy Bennett each tallied scores of 9.775 on the bars and Whitney Daugherty landed a 9.700 on the floor.

The Ladies have taken on head-to-head each of the other four schools participating in the championship this season. Centenary has come up just short against several of them, but with two weeks of rest under their belt, and performing in front of their home crowd, the Ladies will look to get the best of their opponents this time around.

The entire meet can be viewed via live streaming video for a fee at www.GoCentenary.com.
