Ladies Take Third at MIC Championships

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team came up big while hosting the Midwest Independent Championships in the Gold Dome on Friday, finishing third out of a tough field. The Ladies posted a team score of 191.775, while Illinois-Chicago took first place with an effort of 193.850.

 

Southeast Missouri State finished in second place with a 192.025. Texas Woman’s University landed in fourth place with a score of 191.075 and Illinois State placed fifth at 190.775.

 

Individually, Centenary senior Meredith Smith was honored as the MIC Senior Athlete of the Year and was a first team all-conference selection. She finished third on the vault with a score of 9.800.

 

Julia Cornelius claimed the Ladies highest finish on the bars, taking fourth place with a 9.750. Laura Loy tied for sixth on the beam at 9.600 and Marisa Schneider placed fifth on the floor (9.825) and sixth in the all-around (38.450).

 

DeAvera Todd of Illinois-Chicago grabbed the title on the vault (9.875) and tied for the top spot on the floor (9.875) with teammate Annie Kachman and Sandra Blake of Southeast Missouri State. Kachman also finished first in the all-around at 38.975.

 

Courtney Arno-Templet of Texas Woman’s University won the crown on both the bars (9.825) and the beam (9.675).

 

Centenary returns to action on April 17th when it hosts the USA Gymnastics National Championships in the Gold Dome.
