Gents Come Up Empty at Summit League Cluster

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Centenary men’s tennis team went 0-4 over the weekend in the first of two Summit League clusters this season. The Gents found themselves on the short side of the score against South Dakota State, IPFW, Oral Roberts, and IUPUI.

 

Against SDSU, the Gents lost 5-0. Mark Rodgman fell in a tough match in the top singles slot, going down 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 to Mickael Engdahl. Seva Kostelanetz was in a dog fight with Jeff Hughes in the third set before the match was called with the score at 6-4, 3-6, 0-1. Rodgman and doubles teammate Jacob Dawson were tied 6-6 in the top doubles slot when that match was called off as well with SDSU already clinching the win.

 

IPFW defeated Centenary 7-0 with the marquee match being in the sixth flight. Dawson took Arturo Salgado to the brink at 6-0, 5-7, 10-6, but came up short.

 

Oral Roberts took the win over the Gents with a 4-1 score, with the Centenary point coming on a default in the sixth singles position.

 

IUPUI closed out the weekend for the Gents with a 4-0 victory. Rodgman lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the top flight and Oscar Medellin saw his match called off in the third set at 7-6, 3-6, 4-0, unfinished. Dawson had the same ending as Medellin. His match was left unfinished at 2-6, 6-2, 0-1.

 

The Gents return to action on April 6th when they travel to face Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m.
