Gents Continue Homestand with Four against ORU

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary baseball team will put its 14 game home winning streak on the line this weekend against Summit League rival Oral Roberts starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Gents have a 16-1 record at Shehee Stadium this season, with their only blemish coming against Northern Iowa back on Feb. 23.

 

In Wednesday’s 8-7 win over Northwestern State, junior Chris LaLonde came up big in relief of senior Johnny Noland. LaLonde, who earned his first win of the season, went five plus, scattered six hits, allowed four runs, three earned, walked two and struck out a game-high four.

 

At the plate, senior Cameron Penney went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run, while junior Ricky Imperiali was 3-of-4 with two RBIs. Senior Alex Maldonado also had a good day at the dish going 2-for-3 with two knocked in on a double.

 

In its Tuesday game against Arkansas, ORU came away with a 9-4 victory, as Brian Van Kirk and David Geno each knocked in two to help lead the Golden Eagles. Also having a good day at the plate was Brendan Duffy, who was 3-for-6 with two runs.

 

Against the Razorbacks, ORU had a staff day, using pitchers for no more than three innings, as Jameson Dunn picked up the win. Dunn, who was the second pitcher in, went three innings, allowed just a base hit, walked two and struck out three.

 

Overall this season, Van Kirk leads the team in hitting with a .422 average, while three of the Golden Eagle pitchers combined to have a 15-3 record. Carlos Luna, who is 6-0 has not started a game, but has seen action in 19 contests and has pitched in 35 innings.

 

Following this weekend’s action, Centenary will at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday and come back home on Wednesday for a game against Wiley.
