BATON ROUGEĀ—The Centenary gymnastics team will have three members of its squad traveling to the NCAA Regional hosted by LSU on Saturday. Freshman Laura Loy qualified as an individual to compete in the event, while teammates Marisa Schneider and Meredith Smith will serve as alternates.

The regional will feature Stanford, LSU, Missouri, Kentucky, Kent State, and Ohio State and will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The top individual from the region, who is not on one of the qualifying teams, is also selected to compete for an individual title as an event specialist.

Centenary’s Laura Loy is the top individual on the beam and will compete for the crown, while Schneider and Smith will be alternates on the floor exercise and vault respectively. Both Schneider and Smith have the second highest average scores in the region on their events.

Loy’s opportunity to perform in the regional marks only the third time in Centenary history an individual has qualified for the prestigious event. Kristine Menne earned the chance on the bars and in the all-around during her freshman and sophomore campaigns in 2004 and 2005.
