Ladies and Gents Conclude Play at Summit League Championships

The Centenary Ladies and Gents golf teams concluded the Summit League Championships in Macomb, IL, with the Ladies taking a sixth place finish and the Gents finishing tenth. The final round was delayed several hours after early morning rains made the course unplayable.

 

The Ladies posted a score of 993 (+129) to garner their sixth place spot, while the Gents shot 936 (+72) for 10th.

 

The Ladies were led by Chloe Mims, whose 78 in final-round play gave her a ninth-place overall finish and second-team All-Conference honors. She recovered from a tough 87 in round two to post a three-day total of 242 (+26) on the par-72 Harry Mussatto Golf Course.

 

Tracy Williams narrowly missed All-Conference honors, firing a 244 (+28) and finishing tied for 11th. Jessica Garza also finished strong, posting a 78 in the last round to give her a total of 246 (+30) and a 13th-place showing.

 

For the Gents, Greg Berthelot finished tied for 24th after shooting a 227 (+11) and was the medallist for the Gents team. Nick Faitz posted a 232 (+16) score to finish in a tie for 32nd place.

 

Leigh Newton shot 262 (+46) and finished 38th, while Bethany Cox posted a 266 (+50) for a 42nd-place finish to round out the scoring for the Ladies.

 

Mark Weeber shot 235 (+19) and finished in 40th place, while Ryan Sparks finished in 47th with a 244 (+28) and Tyler Williams in 48th position with a 246 (+30).

 

Oral Roberts dominated the women’s side of the tournament, finishing with a team score of  917 (+53) and beating second-place South Dakota State University by 42 shots. Oakland University finished third, with North Dakota State and Western Illinois rounding out the top five. IUPUI, UMKC, IPFW and Southern Utah took spots seven through 10.

 

The results were much tighter on the men’s side, where Western Illinois shot 870 (+6) to take a 10-shot victory over UMKC. Oral Roberts finished a mere five shots behind UMKC for second place, with Southern Utah only two shots behind Oral Roberts for third. South Dakota State was just two shots behind Southern Utah, before an 18-stroke drop to Oakland University in sixth. IUPUI and North Dakota State were close behind for seventh and eighth spots, with IPFW and Centenary rounding out the field.
