Ladies Gear Up for Western Illinois
Thursday, April 24, 2008

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary softball team hosts Western Illinois in a three-game Summit League series starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. The Ladies have traditionally had tough battles with the Westerwinds as both teams have been competing for the conference title year in and year out. Centenary holds the slim advantage in the all-time series, 8-7.

Centenary (28-23, 12-6 Summit) currently sits in second place overall in the league standings, but is clinging to the top seed in The Summit League Tournament since first place North Dakota State cannot advance to the postseason this year. The Ladies have a two-game lead over Southern Utah with six conference games left.

Western Illinois (8-25, 6-7) struggled throughout the non-conference portion of its schedule, but has begun to piece things together in Summit League play. The Westerwinds are a game out of the fourth and final qualifying spot for the conference tournament and need to collect wins badly.

Centenary is 6-3 in conference action on its home field after suffering a sweep to league leader North Dakota State last weekend. However, the Ladies are a tough 12-5 on their home turf overall this season.

Saturday’s game will begin at 12 p.m. and will feature senior day festivities for Lauren Flowers, Jennifer Martin, Lyn Virdell and Amy Wiedeman.
