Gents Fall in Finale to Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah – From start to finish it was a tough day for the Centenary baseball team, as the Gents fell to Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon, 11-5, in Summit League play.

Centenary spotted SUU a nine run lead before it could score a run in the top of the sixth inning. Leading the Gents at the plate was Alex Maldonado, who had three hits for the on afternoon and he also knocked the first run of the day.

In the eighth inning it looked as though Centenary would claw back into the contest with a three run frame. Ricky Imperiali had an RBI single to center, while Joey Fandel doubled in two runs to top the Gents in that offensive category.

It was hard day for the Gents pitching staff, as Dakota Robinson (5-3) got the start but couldn’t get out of the second inning. Joe Hagen and Johnny Noland finished the contest out, as they threw 6.1 innings and struck out six Thunderbird batters.

Next on the docket for Centenary is Western Illinois, who will come to Shreveport to start the four game series on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.
