TULSA, Okla. – A second run inning wasn’t enough for the Centenary baseball team, as its season came to a close with a, 4-1, loss to Southern Utah in the elimination bracket of The Summit League Championship in J.L. Johnson Stadium on Friday.

The offense sputtered Friday, as the Gents (30-26) collected just three base hits and had just six runners on. Southern Utah (30-27), meanwhile, had 11 hits on the afternoon led Nick Freitas and Bucky Aona, who each had two.

For Centenary, Teddy Saenz had the lone RBI on fielder’s choice ground out, while Jomar Tabor, Alex Maldonado and Ryan Bernsen each had a hit. Mac Nelson handcuffed the Gents all afternoon, as he struck out four in a complete game victory.

Boone Whiting also had a good game, but just came up on the short end, as he went career long eight innings, scattered nine hits, allowed four runs, all earned, walked two and fanned four. Aaron Bronson pitched an inning of relief and allowed just two base hits.

The 2008 season ends for Centenary and will the 2009 campaign will begin in February against Northern Iowa.
