SHREVEPORT – A pair from Denison, Texas, have signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer for the Centenary men’s soccer team this fall. Aaron Bergman and Shaun Coogan will join Connor Adams, Jihad Elaydi, Micah Goodwin, Kyle Kling, Tate McIntyre, Kyle Mehnert, John McHugh, Marcos Rodriguez, Jude Stewart, Ben Barcelona and Seth Prochaska, who will be eligible to play this coming season.

Bergman is the all-time goal scorer at Denison High School, hitting pay dirt 43 times in his four-year career. For his efforts on the field, Bergman has been named first team all-district, all-region and MVP for his team.

He is also successful off the field, as he has captured Academic All-State honors all four years.

“Aaron is a proven player and his overall abilities will enhance our roster,” said head coach David Orr. “He has achieved so much in high school and we look for him to continue that at Centenary.”

Coogan, who was a defender in high school, started 90 out of a possible 92 matches in four seasons. However, he wasn’t all defense, as he scored seven career goals and dished off nine assists.

After the 2008 season, Coogan was named Academic All-State, first team all-district and earned the team’s defensive MVP award. He also played for three club teams and was a referee for middle school games.

“Shaun comes from a good soccer program,” Orr stated. “He is a very competitive player and he add even more depth to our defense. I look for him to push for some possible playing time this fall.”
