SHREVEPORT—Centenary volleyball coach Dan Gwitt has announced the signing of Brianna Kern out of Indianapolis, Ind. Kern’s inking brings the Ladies roster to 13 players, with 12 of them being freshmen, as Gwitt continues to overhaul the program in his first full season at the helm.

Kern is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter and defensive specialist from Roncalli High School. As a senior, she was named All-State, All-Marion County, and selected to the State All-Star Team. She helped her high school squad to the 3A State Championship and finished the season with 26 straight victories during her junior year.

Kern has played the last three years with the highly regarded Munciana Volleyball Club and currently plays for the Munciana Samurai 18-1’s, one of the top-ranked club teams in the country.

“Brianna brings a solid overall game to our squad,” said Gwitt. “She is very powerful and has the ability to play several different positions. I look for Brianna to grasp the collegiate game fast and find herself in the mix for a starting spot.”

Kern comes from a volleyball family, having two sisters that also currently play on NCAA Division I rosters. Her oldest sister, Brittany, is a senior at Syracuse and her sister Bethany is a sophomore at the University of New Orleans.

“After my visit to Centenary, I am very excited for the upcoming year,” said Kern. “The volleyball program that Coach Gwitt intends to build is exactly what I am looking for. The city of Shreveport, the campus, and the coaching staff all seem to be a great fit.”
