ELMHURST, Ill. - The 2008-09 Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence has been released and a total of 803 student-athletes from all 19 league-sponsored sports have been honored for their academic prowess.

ELMHURST, Ill. - The University of South Dakota (USD) has accepted an invitation to become a member of The Summit League, Commissioner Tom Douple announced today at a press conference on the USD campus in Vermilion, S.D. USD will begin league competition during the 2011-12 academic year and will have full eligibility for all regular season and tournament championships in 2012-13.

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The success continues for the Centenary men's and women's swimming teams as they continued to break school records Friday at the second day of the Summit League Championship. Overall, the Gents remain in second with 388 points, while the Ladies remain in third with 317 points.

A total of 450 Summit League student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball have been honored for their academic excellence.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Herb "Flight Time" Lang, 1998 Centenary College graduate, will be the guest of honor when Bossier City Mayor "Lo" Walker will officially proclaim January 22 as Herb Lang day! Mayor Walker will present the joint Shreveport-Bossier City proclamation to Lang, who is now in his 10th year as a Harlem Globetrotter.

ELMHURST, Ill. - For the second time in her short collegiate career, freshman Madeline Wyatt has been chosen as The Summit League Female Swimmer of the Week, after posting four first place finishes at the Hendrix Classic and Relays on Friday and Saturday. This is also the third time in a month a member of the Ladies swimming team has been given the conference's weekly honor.

The annual C Club Tip-Off Luncheon and basketball media day will be on Thursday, Nov. 6, at noon in the Whited Room (Bynum Commons). Both teams will be there along with coach Steve Curtis and Greg Gary. Tickets for C Club Members are eight dollars and available at the door.

SHREVEPORT - Three of Centenary's athletics teams will host home events this weekend, beginning with women's soccer on Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday's action will begin bright and early, as the cross country teams will host The Summit League Championship at 10 a.m., while the men's soccer team will cap the night off at 7 p.m. Ladies soccer will conclude the weekend and their season on Sunday at 11 a.m. with a match against IUPUI.

SHREVEPORT - For those of you who don't know me I'm Tony Black the Assistant Sports Information Director at Centenary. While I was never much of an athlete other than playing pick up games with neighborhood kids I always enjoyed sports. My athletic dreams died pretty quickly in life, I got cut from the basketball team in fifth and sixth grade and was axed from the baseball team in seventh grade.

SHREVEPORT - The Gold Dome renovations, which include plans to install a new wood floor, new bleachers, and an upgraded sound system among other things, are progressing nicely. The old floor and bleachers have been completely removed. All audio/video, power, scoreboard and shot clock wiring, phone lines, and internet lines on the court area have been installed and routed to their end destinations. The court is now being sanded and the bleachers will be installed within the next few weeks.

SHREVEPORT - If you're a fan collegiate sports, then this weekend is perfect for you. The action will get started on Friday when both of Centenary's soccer teams host Summit League matches. Saturday's schedule begins when the softball team hosts its annual fall tournament, swimming starts its 2008-09 season against Delta State, cross country will welcome several local teams to the Centenary Invitational and the volleyball team plays Mississippi Valley State. Closing the dream weekend for college sports fans will be the men's soccer team on Sunday at 1 p.m.
