Wednesday, March 4, 2009

SHREVEPORT – Freshman Hillary Phillips pitched seven strong innings, while No. 24  Baylor threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Ladies. However, the Bears prevailed with a 2-1 victory over the Centenary softball team on Wednesday evening.

The Ladies were handcuffed all night by the Baylor’s pitching, as Centenary was fanned 14 times. The Bears also allowed just five base runners, which includes two base hits -- both of which were picked-up by senior Emerald Doria.

With Centenary down by one in the sixth, Doria led-off the bottom half with a home run to center field. However, the Ladies couldn’t create any further damage in the sixth, as they went in order.

Phillips, meanwhile, scattered five hits allowed two runs, didn’t walk a batter and struck out two. Getting the win for Baylor was Shaina Brock, who threw two innings of relief, allowed the one run and fanned two.

Centenary will next see action on Friday at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic, beginning with an 11 a.m. game against Albany. The Ladies’ next home game will be on Friday, March 13 against Summit League foe IPFW.
