Ladies Dominate in 'Senior Day' Meet

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team excelled in their 'Senior Day' meet defeating Pennsylvania 191.650-189.300 on Sunday afternoon.

                

On vault the Ladies top finisher was Courtney Hawkins whose score of 9.725 was just 0.025 behind the event winner, UPENN’s Laura DiPaolo (9.750). Alyssa Zawieja captured third with a score of 9.650, while Marisa Schneider (9.600) and Whitney Daugherty (9.500) finished fifth and sixth respectively.

 

The Ladies dominated on the uneven bars, capturing all six of the top spots. Finishing first was Julia Cornelius with a 9.800, who was followed by Hawkins (9.750) and Mandy Bennett (9.725), while Schneider and Zawieja tied for fourth with a 9.700 and Makensie Lant (9.675) took sixth.

 

On the beam, the Ladies top finishers were Lauren Carlton (9.525), Kameron Turner (9.475) and Schneider (9.350) who finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

 

The Ladies led on the floor as well, as they captured the top four spots. Daugherty won the event with an impressive 9.875. Following Daugherty were Schneider (9.725), Zawieja (9.700) and Cornelius (9.675).

 

In Sunday’s victory the Ladies also dominated in the all around as Schneider (38.375) and Zawieja (38.350) went one and two.

 

The Ladies will return to action on Friday as they take on the Tigers of LSU at 7 pm.
