SHREVEPORT – Three members of the Centenary (15-4) baseball team drove home two RBIs, which helped the Gents offense in a doubleheader sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (12-12) on Saturday afternoon. Centenary was victorious in game one 7-5 and closed the day with a 7-4 win.

Game One

With the game tied at five heading into the bottom of the sixth, freshman Jeff Schaffert came up and drove home the winning run with a single to left. It was the second time in as many games Schaffert had the game-winning RBI.

Senior Chris LaLonde got his third win of the season after pitching 2.1 innings and allowing just one hit, while striking out two. Sophomore Stephen Tromblee finished the game and picked up his team-leading third save of the year.

Game Two

Junior Dakota Robinson pitched a seven inning gem in the nightcap, as he scattered seven hits, allowed two runs and fanned seven Lion batters. Sophomore Derek Dalzell pitched the last two innings and gave up two runs on three hits, while striking out two.

The Gents’ offense was led by junior Michael Tompkins, who was 4-for-4 with a run, while his classmate Tell Ross and senior Steele Lewis each drove in two runs. Centenary chased UAPB’s starting pitcher Kyle Jones after he allowed six unearned runs without recording an out.

Centenary and UPBA will conclude the three-game series on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. Expected to take the hill for the Gents is sophomore Boone Whiting, who is 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA.
