SHREVEPORT – Senior Ricky Imperiali and junior Michael Tompkins each drove in three runs for the Centenary baseball team, as it swept the series from Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon with a 13-2 victory.

The Gents (16-4) cranked opened their offense early in the game, as Imperiali, Tompkins and senior Tim Deering all drove in runs during the first inning. Centenary would also score runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-0 advantage.

UAPB (12-13) got within six after the top half of the seventh, but the Gents put the game out of reach with a five spot in the same inning. Tompkins doubled home two more runs, while junior Jeff Ericson and Imperiali also had RBIs in the seventh.

Sophomore Boone Whiting pitched six innings, scattered four hits, walked two and struck out nine to get his third win of the year. It was the fourth time this season the Oakdale, Calif., native has fanned nine or more batters in a game.

Centenary will be back in action on Tuesday at I-20 rival Grambling with first pitch at 6 p.m. Expected to take the hill for the Gents will be freshman Jacob Lugo, who is 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA.
