SHREVEPORT – In a pitchers duel between Centenary freshman Hillary Phillips and Nicholls State flame thrower Lacey Gros, the Lady Colonels edged out the Ladies 2-1 in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon.

Centenary’s lone RBI came from freshman Lindsey Smith, who singled in junior Haley Bassett. Those were just two of the Ladies’ four hits on the day, as senior Allison McClain and sophomore Caitlin Cavarra also picked up singles.

Phillips on the afternoon went 7.1 innings, allowed 12 hits, two runs, walked three, while fanning one. Gros, meanwhile, pitched a complete game and gave up just one run on four hits, while striking out 13.

Centenary will jump back into conference action at home on Friday evening at 4 p.m. against South Dakota State. The doubleheader will be webcast on www.GoCentenary.com beginning with the pregame show five minutes prior to first pitch.
