Conference Play Begins with a Win

SHREVEPORT – Two RBIs from senior Ricky Imperiali in the third inning helped give the Centenary baseball team a 10-1 victory on Friday evening over Summit League opponent South Dakota State.


The Gents (18-4, 1-0) started quickly, as juniors Michael Tompkins and Travis Leversen each knocked in the first two runs of the game. Centenary added on five more runs in the third with junior Cliff Shepard, freshman Jeff Schaffert and Leversen each platting a run.


The score remained 7-0 until the fifth, when SDSU (4-15, 0-1) scored. The Jackrabbits RBI was picked up by Stephen Turner on a bases loaded walk. The Gents put the game out reach in the seventh with three more runs crossing the plate.


Sophomore Justin Kraft (4-1) earned his fourth win of the season, as he pitched six innings, scattered four hits, allowed one run, walked five and fanned four. Sophomore Derek Dalzell finished the game and picked up his first collegiate save after pitching three innings and striking out three.


The Gents and Jackrabbits will continue their four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
