Sunday, April 12, 2009

MACOMB, Ill. – A complete game seven hitter from sophomore Justin Kraft along with two hits from junior Tell Ross and freshman Jeff Schaffert helped in the Centenary baseball teams 7-1 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday evening.

The Gents (21-5, 4-1) got their offense going in the second when Tim Deering knocked in Ross after he started the inning with a single. The score stayed the same until the fourth when WIU (7-15, 3-2) tied the game at one.

Senior Jomar Tabor had the game-winning RBI when the dugout called for a squeeze play, which scored Deering. The inning started when Deering was hit by a pitch and later went to third when sophomore Robbie Knowles had an infield single.

Centenary then put five insurance runs on the board in the ninth, as Ross had his RBI on a single to center. The Gents also scored on an RBI single by senior Ricky Imperiali and when junior Michael Tompkins reached base on error, which knocked in two.

The Gents and Leathernecks will complete the shorted series on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The games will be available for viewing on for $5.
