Gents Hang Around Early, but ORU Pulls Away Late

TULSA, Okla. – The Centenary baseball team scored a first inning run, but eight runs in the seventh and eighth frames by Oral Roberts lifted the Golden Eagles to an 11-2 victory over the Gents on Friday night in Summit League action.

Senior Jomar Tabor led the game off with a double and then was later brought home on a single to left field by junior Michael Tompkins. Sophomore Justin Kraft began the bottom half of the first off on a high note as he struck out two of his seven batters.

However, in the second and third innings, ORU scored three times and extended its lead by two. The Gents got the score back to one when junior Travis Leversen stole two bases and later scored on a wild pitch.

ORU then began to pull away in the seventh when it scored twice on two hits, and then in the eighth the Golden Eagles put a six spot on the board to go up nine.

Kraft pitched 6.1 innings allowed five runs on six hits, while walking six and his counterpart Jerry Sullivan, meanwhile, lasted eight innings, gave up two runs to go along with three walks and nine strikeouts.
