TULSA, Okla. – It was a tough day for the Centenary baseball team as it was swept in a doubleheader by Summit League arch-rival Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon. The Gents dropped the first game 10-6 and then were handed a 15-8 setback in the nightcap.

Game one

The Gents (23-10, 6-5) took a short lived lead in the first on an RBI single by junior Travis Leversen, but ORU (21-9, 11-0) answered back with three runs over the next two innings. The Golden Eagles would score four more times in the fourth, three of which came off of the bat of Johnny Roberts, who went yard.

Centenary would then bring the game within one after scoring five runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Senior Ricky Imperiali drove home two of the runs on a double to left field, while freshman Jeff Schaffert hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth.

Game two

Eight runs in the first three innings didn’t hold up for Centenary, as ORU scored nine runs after the fifth for the sweep. Freshman Morgan Brian had the big hit during the second when he connected on a two-run homer to give the Gents an 8-6 lead.

Junior Cliff Shepard had a nice afternoon at the dish, as he was 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while junior Tell Ross also knocked in two. Leversen, who picked up where he left off on in the continuation game was 2-for-4, while scoring twice.

Centenary will begin a five-game homestand on Tuesday when I-49 rival Northwestern State comes to town. The Gents will then host conference foe IPFW for four games starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
