Ladies Golf Finishes 10th at Summit League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich.—After battling inclement weather and tough playing conditions in the opening round of The Summit League Golf Championship, the Centenary Ladies’ golf team was able to complete both rounds on day two, finishing in 10th place with a two-round score of 695 (346-349). 

The Ladies were led by senior Jessica Garza, who managed to cut one stroke off her first round to shoot a team-low 82 in the final 18 holes to tie for 15th overall with a score of 165 (83-82).

Classmate Leigh Newton (85-87) tied for 28th with a score of 172, while junior Jessica Marquart (88-92) fired a two-round total of 180 to place 43rd. Rounding out the Ladies were seniors Bethany Cox (95-88, 183) and Tracy Jones (90-94, 184) tying for 45th and placing 48th respectively.

Oral Roberts (305-314) finished first with a team score of 619 over two rounds, just 43 shots over par. UMKC (331-326) took second with a 657 and Oakland (328-333) rounded out the top three with a 661.

4. Western Illinois (336-330, 666); 5. South Dakota State (341-330, 671); 6. North Dakota State (340-335, 675); 7. Southern Utah (339-344, 683); 8. IPFW (342-343, 685); 9. IUPUI (347-341, 688); 10. Centenary (346-349, 695)

Individually, Christy Carter (72-76) of ORU finished first with a total of 148, four over par after 36 holes. Teammate Amber Hensley (77-74) took home second with a 151 and Kelsey Kipp (77-82) of UMKC came in third with a 159.

The Summit League Championship was the final tournament for the Ladies this season.
