SHREVEPORT – Juniors Cliff Shepard and Travis Leversen combined to knock in five runs for the Centenary baseball team, as the Gents were victorious 11-10 over IPFW in Summit League play.

Centenary (24-11, 7-5) founds itself down 3-0 early, but a six run fourth kicked start the Gents’ offense as four batters each had an RBI. Centenary’s first run came the painful way, as freshman Jeff Schaffert was hit by a pitch.

However, the Gents wouldn’t have the lead for long, as Mastodon (9-27, 2-11) shortstop Jordan Kohler drove in four runs with a grandslam in the sixth inning. Kohler on the night hit for the cycle and drove in five runs.

Centenary, meanwhile, would grab the lead for good in the seventh with five runners crossing the plate. Shepard drove in two of the runs with a double to center field, while Leversen knocked in his two runners on a single up the middle.

Sophomore Justin Kraft got the no decision after pitching six innings, but classmate Derek Dalzell came in and earned his first collegiate win. The Baycity, Mich., native pitched two innings, walked one and struck out two, while Stephen Tromblee got his fourth save of the year.

The Gents and Mastodons will met again on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
