Offense Comes Alive for Gents in Doubleheader

SHREVEPORT – Junior Travis Leversen had seven RBIs on the day to help push the Centenary baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of IPFW on Saturday evening in Summit League action. The Gents took the first game 15-9 and finished the day with a 7-3 win.


Game one


The Gents (26-11, 9-5) fell down 4-0 after the top of the second, but they answered back with 13 runs over the next two innings to gain the victory. Leversen had the big blast in the second, as he hit a grandslam and junior Tell Ross would tack on a three-run bomb.


In the third, senior Ricky Imperiali doubled home a pair of runs and Ross added on to his RBI total, as he knocked in two more. For good measure junior Michael Tompkins also got in on the action as he drew a bases loaded walk.


Game two


After Centenary drew first blood on Leversen’s RBI double, IPFW (9-28, 2-13) came back with two in the second to gain a one run advantage. However, the Gents would add six runs over the four innings to get the second the win.


Leversen again swung a big stick, as he hit a homer to left field in the fifth, which was part of a three-run inning. The Temecala, Calif., native on the day was 6-for-6, with seven RBIs, while also scoring four times.


Centenary and IPFW will complete its four-game series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m.
