Six Run Sixth Helps Give the Gents a Sweep
Sunday, April 26, 2009

SHREVEPORT – Sophomore Stephen Tromblee pitched a complete game six-hitter and freshman Morgan Brian went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Centenary baseball team to a 8-1 win over Summit League opponent IPFW on Sunday afternoon.

The game went scoreless through three and half, but junior Tell Ross’ squeeze bunt in the bottom of the fourth gave Centenary a 1-0 lead. The Mastodons came back in the top of the fifth to tie the game when Scott Micincki scored on a pass ball.

Centenary though would put the game out of reach in the sixth with a six run frame, as freshman Jeff Schaffert’s RBI ground out proved to be the game winner. In that inning, Brian singled home two runs, while senior Ricky Imperiali’s double also drove in two runs.

Tromblee, meanwhile, won his fourth game of the season, as he scattered just six hits and allowed one earned run, while walking just two and fanning six. His counterpart, Samuel Walker went 5.1 innings, allowed five runs, four walks, but struck out five.

The Gents will return to action on Friday when they travel to Fargo, N.D., to play North Dakota State in a four-game conference series. Live stats and video will be available on
