Ladies and Lady Demons Do Battle Wednesday

SHREVEPORT – After rain washed out the contest on March 11 in Natchitoches, the Centenary and Northwestern State softball teams will now lock horns in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Shreveport.

 

The Ladies are coming off of a series with Southern Utah where they dropped 2-of-3 to the Thunderbirds. However, Centenary is still currently playing .500 softball, as it is 5-5 in its last 10 games.

 

Offensively, Lindsey Smith still leads the pace with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs, which ranks near the top in the conference. Hillary Phillips, meanwhile, who has toed the rubber in 33 games is in the top five among all Summit League pitchers.

 

In 2009, Northwestern State has struggled having lost 12 straight games, with its last win coming over Nicholls State back on April 10. In those 12 losses the Lady Demons have lost four of the them by one run.

 

The offense is anchored by Stormi Stech, who has a .222 average, but Samantha Roberts leads NSU with two home runs and 20 RBIs. In the circle, Kelee Grimes is 3-26 with a 5.13 ERA in 180.2 innings to go along with 117 strike outs.

 

After the action with NSU, Centenary will return to the field on Friday and Saturday against North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D. The Ladies have to win just one game over the Bison to claim a spot in the conference tournament.
