Gents Play Eight of last Nine at Home

SHREVEPORT – Currently the only 30 win club in The Summit League, the Centenary baseball team will look to claim a spot in the upcoming conference tournament with one victory over Southern Utah starting on Thursday at 6 p.m.


The Gents and Thunderbirds have altered this weekends schedule due to finals and graduation. Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s game has been pushed to 2 p.m. to accommodate graduation traffic.  


Centenary is currently led by junior Travis Leversen, who is batting .400 and on a 13 game hitting streak. Leversen also has a hit safely in 20 of the last 21 games, which includes three perfect days at the plate.


Expected to get the call on Friday is junior Dakota Robinson, who making his first start in over a month. Robinson this season is 4-2 with a 4.02 ERA in five starts with one complete game and he has also fanned 45.


The highflying Thunderbirds are coming off of a 14-5 Monday loss to Oklahoma State and their last conference series with Oral Roberts was washed out. SUU is currently 22-19 overall and 11-4 in conference play.


Bo Cuthbertson and Matt Sanford are batting .411 and .410 respectively, while Nick Freitas has knocked 11 over the fence. On the hill Steve Johnson leads SUU with seven wins and Alec Reichle has three of the team’s six complete games.


Following this weekends game with SUU, Centenary will travel to LSU on Tuesday, May 12. The Gents will then return home on Thursday when they host Oakland in the final conference series of the season.
