SHREVEPORT – Holding on to a one run lead going into the seventh inning, three errors cost the Centenary baseball team a chance at victory, as the Gents lost 13-7 to Southern Utah in Summit League play on Saturday afternoon.

Centenary opened the game with a 2-0 lead after junior Travis Leversen and freshman Jeff Schaffert each knocked in a run. However, SUU came back with a two spot in the fifth to tie the game.

The Gents though would grab the lead once again in the bottom half of the fifth when Tell Ross scored on a throwing error by SUU.

In the following inning the wheels came off for Centenary, as two fielding errors and a throwing mishap allowed the Thunderbirds to score seven times. Once again the Gents would crawl back into the game, as freshman Morgan Brian had a bases clearing double.

After a quiet eighth, SUU put the game out of reach for Centenary in the ninth when four runners crossed the dish.

Stephen Tromblee took the loss in relief after pitching three innings and allowing 11 runs on nine hits. For SUU, James Crockett got the win, as he pitched two-thirds of inning, but walked two and gave up four runs.

Centenary’s next action will be on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.at LSU. Live stats will be available on www.GoCentenary.com and www.LSUSports.net.
