Gents Look for Seeding This Weekend
Wednesday, May 13, 2009

SHREVEPORT – It’s all down to seeding now for the Centenary baseball team this weekend, as it hosts Summit League opponent Oakland in a four game series beginning on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.

The Gents with a sweep coupled by Southern Utah dropping all four of its games to South Dakota State in Brookings would jump Centenary to the second seed. The Gents would then play the Jackrabbits in the opening round of the conference tournament and SUU would then go head-to-head with Oral Roberts.

Before that can happen, the Gents will be looking to end a four-game skid that continued on Tuesday after a 12-4 loss to No. 2 LSU. In the loss to LSU, junior Travis Leversen’s team long 16 game hitting streak was snapped after he went 0-for-4.

Leversen, meanwhile, continues to lead Centenary with a .393 average, while junior Tell Ross has put seven over the fence and has knocked in 49 runs, which is just three RBIs away from moving into the top 10 all-time in a season at Centenary.

The expected starting rotation for Centenary this weekend will be Justin Kraft (6-3), Dakota Robinson (4-3), Boone Whiting (5-2) and Stephen Tromblee (5-2). The four starting pitchers for the Gents hold a 20-10 record and have an ERA of 4.05.

Oakland this season is 20-32 overall and 9-16 in league play and is led offensively by Andrew Stafford, who is hitting .359 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. Justin Wilson, meanwhile, leads the Golden Grizzlies with 17 doubles, 12 long balls, while he has also drove in 40 runs.

Following this weekends action with Oakland, Centenary will start its conference championship run on May 21 in Tulsa, Okla., at The Summit League Tournament.
