TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Jeff Schaffert had the Centenary baseball teams only hit and RBI in the first round of The Summit League Championship on Thursday evening, as Oral Roberts defeated the Gents 9-1.

ORU scored three times in the first, but Centenary answered back with a run in the second. However, the Golden Eagles would put three more runs on the board between the third and sixth innings.

The Gents never threatened again, as junior Jeff Ericson was the only runner to advance past second base. ORU pitcher Jerry Sullivan pitched a complete game one hitter, while striking out 10 and walking just one.

Junior Michael Tompkins started the game and 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, while sophomore Stephen Tromblee finished up the game and struck out five, but walked six.

Centenary will play in the elimination game against South Dakota State on Friday morning at 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast on with live stats on
