Ladies Travel North for UCA Classic

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team will look to build on the chemistry it is creating on the court as the Ladies travel north to take part in the UCA Classic hosted by Central Arkansas. The Maroon and White will play four games in the tournament over a three-day span.

 

Centenary (0-4) will open the event on Thursday evening with a 7 p.m. match against Central Arkansas. The Ladies are led by Bethany Kern on defense, who tallied 66 digs (5.08 per game) last weekend over four matches. The sophomore was named to the Comfort Suites Sam Houston Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

 

Offensively, freshmen Brianna Kern and Jenny Kunze have led the way for Centenary, tallying 28 kills and 24 kills respectively.

 

Central Arkansas (1-2) enters the weekend after losing to New Mexico and Loyola Marymount and dismissing Idaho State in their season-opening tournament. Emily Gordon paced the Sugar Bears with 25 kills over three matches.

 

The Ladies will continue in the UCA Classic with a 4 p.m. match on Friday against Jackson State (0-3). On Saturday, Centenary will face Houston Baptist (4-1) at 9 a.m. before concluding the tournament at 1 p.m. against Mississippi Valley State.
