Gents Basketball Lends Hand to Hurricane Relief

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s basketball team took time to help those in need in the wake of Hurricane Gustav by helping unload cars, boxing up supplies, and loading supply trucks recently. The Gents donated their help to the Tango Trucking Company Food Drive for Hurricane Relief, which partnered with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana to make the event a success.

One of the positives in helping with this effort, in addition to helping those in need, is that any unused supplies not needed in the impacted areas of south Louisiana will benefit the food bank in the Shreveport/Bossier City area. Thus, the project allowed the players to make a state-wide impact through their contributions.

“We saw this as an opportunity to lend a hand during a natural disaster and to give our players a greater appreciation of the trials that some people may have to go through,” said Centenary head coach Greg Gary. “There are many families down south that have either lost their homes or are struggling to regain access and/or electricity to their homes. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
