Gents Back in Action Wednesday

SHREVEPORT – After spending the weekend in Conway, Ark., the Centenary men’s soccer team will be back there on Wednesday to play Central Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. The Gents go into the match at 1-3, while the Bears are 2-4.

 

Centenary and Central Arkansas both played Belmont and Bowling Green during the weekend. The Gents lost to BGSU, 3-2, and fell to Belmont, 1-0, while the Bears beat BGSU, 2-1, and lost to Belmont, 1-0.

 

Leading Centenary’s offense is freshman John McHugh, who has scored two goals, while sophomore Brian Hurlburt added another goal for the Gents.

 

Sophomore Rennie Walker and freshman Seth Prochaska have begun splitting time between the posts for the Gents. Walker has 20 saves in 23 chances, while Prochaska has six saves in two matches.

 

Central Arkansas has only scored two offensive goals this season, with the other being an own goal. David Ngwenya and Donny Martinez have each put the ball in the back of the net for the Bears

 

The UCA defense, meanwhile, has allowed 12 goals in five matches, as it combined to give up nine against Kentucky and Evansville in a weekend. UCA’s keeper, Greg Brooks has 15 saves this season and has seen action in all five matches.

 

The Gents will return home on Saturday to play Houston Baptist on Mayo Field beginning at 7 p.m.
