Gents Win a Thriller in Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – Playing a man down for the last 30 minutes didn’t seem to affect the Centenary men’s soccer team on Wednesday afternoon, as it came out on top 2-1 in overtime at Central Arkansas.

The match didn’t start out on a positive note for the Gents (2-3), as they found themselves down 1-0 after only 45 seconds. However, freshman Seth Prochaska recovered nicely by making four saves in the first half.

Centenary got outshot in the first 45 minutes 12-4, but the rest of the match came out even, as the Gents and Bears (2-5) each had eight attempts. Centenary sophomore Rennie Walker stopped a match-high five shots, while his counterpart Greg Brooks made three saves.

Offensively, freshman John McHugh continues to shine for Centenary, as he scored his third goal of the season at 58:09 to tie the match at one. The game-winner was scored in the 98th minute by junior Sammy Robinson, whose ball went right over Brooks’ outstretched fingers.

The Gents will open their home schedule on Saturday when Houston Baptist comes to town for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
