Ladies Drop Another One Goal Match
Friday, September 19, 2008

NATCHITOCHES, La. - On a hazy humid Friday night the Centenary and Northwestern State women’s soccer teams played a tightly contested match, but the Demons came out on top 1-0.

The first half was an offensive struggle for both teams, but a goal late in the period gave NSU a 1-0 halftime lead. Centenary (1-6) junior Kate Donnelly had two saves in the half and her one goal allowed was just over her hands.

Leading the Demons (3-4-1) on offense was Missy Oakley, who had two shots on goal. The Ladies, meanwhile, struggled to get their offensive momentum going, as freshman Katie Valdez could not get her two corner kicks to a teammate.

The second half proved to be much better for Centenary, as it had four shots. Freshman Chelsea Granger had the Ladies lone shot on goal for the night, as NSU’s keeper Lindy Strahan made an outstanding stop to keep the game at 1-0.

Centenary will be back out on the field Sunday when it travels to Texas State for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
