UMKC Proves Too Much for Ladies
Sunday, September 28, 2008

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Centenary volleyball team enjoyed one of its best single sets of the season against UMKC on Sunday, but it was not enough as the Kangaroos claimed the other three sets and the victory (25-14, 13-25, 25-18, 25-18) in Summit League action.

Centenary (2-13, 0-4 Summit) lost the first set in large part to its sputtering offense, which managed just a -.111 hitting percentage with nine errors and only five kills. However, the Ladies quickly reversed their fortunes as the Maroon and White sizzled in the second set to the tune of a .524 clip on 13 kills and two errors.

With the match even at one set apiece, UMKC (7-11, 2-2 Summit) outlasted Centenary the rest of the way behind the duo of Brittany Fossier and Elizabeth Beck to pull away. The pair each recorded 10 kills in the win, while Alexandra Miller added four service aces and a team-high 19 digs.

Brianna Kern and Erika Lunsford had eight kills apiece for Centenary. Ashlee Freeman pounded down seven kills and added a match-best six blocks. Kayla Tibaldo and Bethany Kern tallied 19 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

The Ladies return to action on Tuesday when they host Southeastern Louisiana in the Centenary Fitness Center at 5:30 p.m.
