Gents Fall Short at ORU Shootout

TULSA, Okla. – The Centenary (320-322-326, 968) men’s golf team concluded its first tournament of the 2008-09 season, finishing 12th in the Bob Hurley Auto ORU Shootout. The Gents shot a final round score of 326, 94 shots behind leader, Texas State.


Behind Texas State’s score of 874, in second place was Illinois State at 894, while Sam Houston State and Northern Illinois wrapped up the top three finishes at 900.


Corey Roberson (68-69-75) of Texas State was atop the leader board shooting 4 under par for the three round, 54-hole tournament.


Leading the Gents was junior Nick Faitz, (82-76-79) who shaved three strokes off his first round score to finish with a final round of 79 tying sophomore teammate, Greg Berthelot (78-80-79) who remained consistent throughout, each finishing with three round total of 237.


Junior Mark Weeber (87-78-80) finished tied for 54th with 245, eight shots behind Faitz and Berthelot, while sophomore teammate Ryan Sparks (84-90-88) tied for 60th with 262.


Centenary will travel to Huntsville, Texas on October 12-14 to compete in the Sam Houston State Invitational for their second of three fall tournaments.
