Tough Night for the Ladies
Friday, October 3, 2008

SHREVEPORT – On a warm and cloudy Friday evening, the Centenary women’s soccer team had a tough contest on the pitch, as it was shutout by Oakland, 3-0, in Summit League action.

The Ladies and Grizzlies (2-7-2, 1-0-0) played a tight contest through 24 minutes, but Deanna Colarossi struck first when she lifted a ball over the hands of junior Kate Donnelly. Centenary’s only first period offensive opportunity came about a minute after the OU goal, when freshman Chelsea Granger smacked a ball that was stopped by Kim Herbst.

The second 45 minutes was played a little tighter, but the Golden Grizzlies hit the back of the net again on a goal by Shannon Doyle. To put the game away for OU, Meghan Hartwig took a pass and booted the ball to the upper 90.

Centenary’s (2-8-1, 0-1-0) offense was led by junior Lauren Cheaney and freshman Laura Immenschuh, who each had a team-high two shots. One of Cheaney’s shots was an open goal, but the ball sailed just above the posts.

Defensively, Donnelly made a game-high seven saves for Centenary, while her counterpart Kim Herbst had three stops.

The Ladies will see their next action on Oct. 10, when they take a trip to South Dakota State, followed by a date with North Dakota State on Sunday.
