Gents Hang Tight Until Late

TULSA, Okla. – The Friday night match between the Centenary and Oral Roberts men’s soccer teams was close, but two late goals helped give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 victory in Summit League play.

 

The Gents (3-7-1, 1-3-0) started the match off in attack mode, as freshman John McHugh fired off a shot in the fourth minute. Just seven minutes later, Centenary was back in its attacking zone, this time Aaron Bergman had a look, but the ball went wide.

 

ORU (5-5-2, 2-0-1) was able to get its first goal at 21:26 when Michael Lind dribbled the ball past Gents keeper Rennie Walker. A few moments later, McHugh had another opportunity, but his shot was stopped by Irving Peralta to keep score the 1-0 at halftime.

 

With nine minutes left in regulation, junior Sammy Robinson had a chance to tie the match, but his shot went high The match would stay close until ORU scored its second and third goal just seconds apart, at 86:48 and 87:06.

 

Centenary will now have a week off before it prepares for its home match against Western Illinois on Friday, Oct. 24.
