Ladies Round out Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Centenary women’s basketball team was picked 10th in The Summit League preseason poll, as voted on by the conference sports information directors, coaches and local media members.


South Dakota State (428 points) was voted first, as the Jackrabbits received 23 first place votes and Oakland (371) and Oral Roberts (358) were picked second and third respectively. The Golden Grizzlies and Golden Eagles also each got three first place nods. 


Picked to be in the middle of the pack was IUPUI (313), who was chosen fourth, Western Illinois (241) was picked fifth and North Dakota State (226) was predicted to finish sixth, while the Bison also got one first place vote.


Rounding out the bottom half of the league is IPFW (177), UMKC (140), Southern Utah (103) and the aforementioned Ladies (93). The Mastodons were chosen seventh, Kangaroos eighth and the Thunderbirds ninth.


“Regardless of our position in the preseason poll I am very excited about our team this year,” said head coach Steve Curtis.  “We have a group of players who are determined to change the perception of Centenary Ladies Basketball.  I am looking forward to the challenges of the season and can't wait to get started.”


The Ladies will begin their 2008-09 season on Friday, Nov. 14, at Alabama with tip-off to go up at 7:00 p.m.
