ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League men’s basketball preseason poll was released on Thursday, and Centenary was chosen 10th by the conference coaches, sports information directors and selected members of the media.

Oral Roberts (399 points) was picked to finish first with 13 first place votes, but right behind the Golden Eagles is North Dakota State (394), who received six top votes. Hot on the heels of the Bison was Oakland (391), who was chosen third, but the Golden Grizzlies did pick up 10 votes for first place.

The middle half of the conference is thought to be IUPUI (315), who also got a first place vote and was picked fourth, while IPFW was chosen fifth (225) and UMKC was predicted to be sixth (199).

Rounding out the pack is Southern Utah, South Dakota State, Western Illinois and the Gents. The Thunderbirds got 194 points, while the Jackrabbits received 154, the Leathernecks were just 39 points behind SDSU with 115 points and Centenary got 64 points to round out the poll.

“The preseason polls are nice for the fans and the media, but to me it really matters where you are at the end of the season,” said head coach Greg Gary. “I am confident we will get this thing turned around with the upgrades to the Gold Dome and weight room along with backing from the community.”

The preseason teams were also announced on Thursday and there were seven guards named to the first or second teams, which includes Ben Woodside of the North Dakota State, who has garnered Player of the Year honors.

“Since I’ve been here our guys have been working their tails off for the upcoming season,” said Gary. “I thought Chase Adams and Nick Stallings might get on one of the preseason teams, but the guard play in this league must be pretty good.”

The Gents will begin the new season on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Mississippi State with tip-off to start at 7 p.m.
