SHREVEPORT – It will be another fun filled weekend of sports for Centenary athletics, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. with the men’s soccer team. The Gents swim team will also be in action on Saturday when they host SMU and the volleyball squad will welcome UMKC and IUPUI to town.

Men’s Soccer

The Gents are in a must win situation for the next two weeks, as they hope to claim a spot in the conference tournament. Western Illinois comes into Friday’s match just a half game up on Centenary, but both teams are within shouting distance of IUPUI for the final spot.

Offensively, Centenary will look for freshman John McHugh and sophomore Brian Hurlburt to continue to the attack. The young duo has combined to score five goals, while Tate McIntyre, Sammy Robinson and Dragan Hinic have also hit paydirt.

Soccer fans are encouraged to attend the post game meal at El Chico Mexican Restaurant at 4015 Fern Ave. in Shreveport.

Men’s Swimming

After having two weeks off, the Gents will jump back into the pool for a duel meet with SMU at noon on Saturday. Centenary is coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Incarnate Word on Oct. 11, 134-128.

Following the weekend action against the Mustangs, both the Ladies and Gents will participate in the Hendrix Classic and Relays on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. This will also be the last chance to see the swimming teams at home before Jan. 16, when Centenary hosts Henderson State.

Volleyball

With the season coming to an end, the Ladies will look to get back into the win column on Saturday at 7 p.m. against UMKC and Sunday at 5 p.m. against IUPUI. Centenary lost to the Kangaroos earlier this season in four sets, while being swept by the Jaguars.

Leading the Ladies offensive attack is Brianna Kern and Jennifer Kunze, who have 179 and 138 kills respectively. Jaclyn Lopez also nears the top 10 all-time at Centenary for assists in a season and career, as she needs just 108 more to get into the record book.
