CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Centenary women’s soccer team played a tightly contested match on Sunday afternoon at Southern Utah, but a Thunderbird goal midway through the second half proved to be the difference, as the Ladies fell 1-0 in Summit League play.

Centenary (2-13-1) had two offensive opportunities in the first half. The first came from the foot of freshman Chelsea Granger and the other shot was from Catie Depew. SUU, meanwhile, had one real offensive threat in the first period, but her shot was saved by junior Kate Donnelly.

The game stayed scoreless until 64:06 when Stacey Brinkman of SUU (7-8) beat the Ladies defense and on an angled shot from 7-yards out. Just four minutes later freshman Katie Valdez had a shot that put T-Birds keeper Sutton Fox into a full extension save.

Then with 14 second left in the match, Centenary had another opportunity to score on a corner kick. Ladies head coach Chase Wooten sent everybody, including Donnelly into the box, Centenary though could not get a head on the ball to score.

The Ladies will close the season out next weekend when it hosts IPFW and IUPUI at 7 and 1 p.m.
