Friday Night Showdown Won by Westerwinds
Friday, November 7, 2008

SHREVEPORT – Freshman Jaclyn Lopez gave a team-high 28 assists and senior Ashlee Freeman had nine kills to lead the Centenary volleyball team’s offense, but it wasn’t enough for the Ladies as they fell in straight sets to Western Illinois on Friday night (14-25, 18-25, 16-25).

Centenary (4-23, 0-13) and Western (9-19, 5-8) battled early in the first set, but a 4-1 run helped give the Westerwinds a lead they would not lose. However, the Ladies got the game back within one (10-11), but they couldn’t draw any closer. Leading Centenary’s offense was Freeman, who had four of her nine kills on the night.

Again the Ladies were able to hang tight, but midway through the second set WIU went on an 8-2, which helped give the Westerwinds the victory. For Centenary, freshman Brianna Kern and Freeman each had four kills to pace the Ladies offense.

Freshman Kinsey Mims had an early service ace and the Ladies took a 5-2 lead, but they couldn’t hold on. The teams went back and fourth, but with Centenary looking to take a lead, a service error shifted momentum towards WIU, as the Westerwinds closed the set by going on a 13-4 run.

The Ladies will have tomorrow off before heading north to play Oral Roberts on Sunday at 2 p.m.
