Ladies Downed Quickly by Golden Eagles

TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Christian Golden had six kills and five digs to lead the Centenary volleyball team’s offense in Sunday afternoon’s Summit League straight set loss to Oral Roberts (11-25, 18-25, 12-25).

The first set didn’t begin the way Centenary (4-24, 0-14) would have liked, down 6-0 before an ORU (20-7, 12-2) service error gave the Ladies their first point. Centenary was able to score its first offensive point on a freshman Brianna Kern kill that fell just in front of the Golden Eagle defense. The Ladies were led offensively by Golden, who had three kills.

To start game two, freshman Jaclyn Lopez gave Centenary service ace, but the young Ladies gave the point right back on the next play. However, Centenary hung tough with ORU until a blocking error by the Ladies shifted the momentum back to the Golden Eagles.

ORU came out in the final set on fire, as it opened the game with a 12-3 lead, but Centenary scored four answered points to get it within shouting distance. The run was started in part by a block assist by senior Ashlee Freeman and Lopez. However, the Golden Eagles closed the game on a 13-9 run to win.

Centenary will close the season next weekend with two conference matches against North Dakota State on Friday and South Dakota State on Sunday. Sunday will also be ‘Senior Day’ for Freeman.
